Kamala Harris and Donald Trump: A Matter of Values and American Norms

Presidential elections in the United States are usually understood to be about making a choice between two individual candidates. In 2024, the election seems to be more about choosing between two polar-opposite value systems.

The choice of one system offers a reality in which blatant lies, self-aggrandizement, and authoritarianism become the defining daily American norm. The choice of the other is characterized by the cultivation of opportunities for America’s increasingly diverse populations, safeguarding women’s rights to make the best health choices for their own bodies, and easing the economic and political tensions which have generated so much hatred and violence among Americans over the past decade. In addition, on a more global level, there are these factors to consider:
